Project Overview:
Meditation Wise
As the Lead Designer, I was given the task to conceptualize and design the mobile design for Meditation Wise. I was able to implement a User Experience Process involving user research methods to construct an interactive UI for a mobile experience.
Tools Used:
Adobe, Figma, Loop11, Miro
Time Taken:
~12 weeks
Project Goals
The goal of this project was to study the brand's existing website, and analyze the results of its use to create an effective mobile app design.
Brand Research
I first researched most of the rising meditation apps in the industry; a SWOT analysis revealed the purpose of similar apps to Meditation Wise's Brand as well as the similarities and differences between them. In order to understand the goals of the company, I analyzed the website itself to understand its purpose.
My research revealed that Meditation Wise aims to provide its users with authentic, time-tested techniques from all traditions around the world with descriptions of the technique's history and benefits. Its mission is to provide all the necessary tools in order to allow its users to develop a meditation practice using their chosen technique, not just explore many options.
Competitive Analysis: SWOT
User Research
Both attitudinal and behavioral research were conducted through user interviews, contextual inquiries, and surveys. Usability testing was conducted with over 9 participants using the tool, Loop11. Surveys and questionaires were sent out to those participants for clarification and individual interviews also took place. These methods revealed that the main pain points for users (in using the existing website) were poor navigation and relatability.
Analysis
In order to fix these problems, the design would include the following:
Immediately accessible search feature for easier navigation
Reducing choices for simpler user experience (Hick's Law) allowing for easier relatability
Key features of the app displayed immediately: Techniques displayed by (1)Need, (2)Level, and (3)Tradition
My design focuses on elements such as tracking favorites, scheduling sessions, personal journal, tracking statistics, and more.
Content Models
If the goal for Meditation Wise is to allow users to develop a meditation practice, consistency should be key. To consistently practice one thing, a habit is sure to be formed. A design that could act as a catalyst for users to form a habit of meditating is the ideal. And to do this, every element must be consistent in both navigation and relatability.
Design
Content Models for each page helped me organize the contents of every screen. End to end user flow from home screen to using the app was created using Miro. Then sketches on paper allowed me to conceptualize the layout of the app. Thus came the wireframes.
After a few iterations and many discussions, I worked on the low fidelity prototype using Adobe and Figma. The next step was to make it interactive. Finally, though not entirely complete, the design is ready to showcase. Usability testing as well as an accessibility evaluation have yet to take place using the current prototype.
